I had been trying to get this engine going for ages, but put it away.......... Today I took it apart to see what to scrap.... The flywheel wouldn't come off....... it was siezed on... and thats why it wouldn't fire up. The timing was altered somewhat... I'm just saving everything but the crankshaft and flywheel which got wrecked somehow.. I haven't got the conrod out, and will try to press the pin out in a good vice..... I have two 160 FC blocks in the shed so am planning to get one going and paint it up........ cheers speedy

Hi speedy, never seen one stuck on like that and I have had ones that have been left out in the weather for years. Was the crank locked up and what is the bore like. I always hate seeing this happen to these motors
Bore is good, rings good, I'm saving all the parts.... I wrecked the crankshaft getting it off, as it was wrecked anyway.... I managed to get top roller bearing off conrod, in a vice with two sockets..... easy, but the lower onewould not budge.... it's going to scrap metal... Interesting project and made some space, progress on a job..... speedy

And the coil off these motors is very important as they are model specific and you see them for sale on ebay for $40 . I view every one of these mowers I come across as always being worth $40 but I would never pay that for one but it gives me a benchmark figure
MF, any full crank I get is kept to fit on any 24's I build ( that is if I have the adapter plates or it is a bolt on fit) or they go onto sidethrow utilities. I do have a number of good condition, not rusted, F/C bodies but they will be converted to PT/s if and when I need them. Alloy bases Max usually takes them

Not before harvesting any good wheels I presume. So there's no issue with people buying FC powered stuff with their spare parts being less common than PT? I guess it's worth it if they perform a niche job.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
I still have a number of running F/C's and a stockpile of non runners that if and when I need to build a few motors I can but at the moment I don't need to do that.
MF, All I use is whatever is the simplest, cup or side starter. So far I haven't needed to try fitting a cup starter on a sidepull but I may have to one day.
