This might sound like a silly question but can anyone tell me how many poles this stator (alternator) is for my outboard engine.
I ordered the charging kit and installed it under the flywheel opposite the magnito but I can't work out if the stator (alternator) is 1 pole or 2 pole. I'm trying to determine how many pulses it should send per revolution.
Below is a picture of the stator and the diagram.

Cheers

G'day Bon _Scott ,

I would say it's a 2 pole because you need a north and a south pole for the alternator to work.

The Pit bike motors have the 2 poles for the Alternator.

Cheers
Max.

Hi maxwestern

I was guessing 2 pole aswell but couldn't find any reference anywhere, most stators coils have an even pole count 6,8,12 so thought it would be 2 pole with the 2 pick up ends just was unsure cause of the single windings between the 2 pole ends.
Mines similar to the photo you uploaded with the stator coil and lighting coil opposite each other, one excites the ignition coil via the cdi the other connects to the rectifier for 12v charging.

Thanks.
