What the ad on eBay also fails to inform you of is that this tap, in particular, is also a direct switch-out for the Left, Right and Indeterminant Blinker fluid tanks on many Spagthorpe Motorcycles that were developed between 1936 and 1952.
Few of these taps ever make it to the open market, hence the unusually high price listing.
" Don't worry, if it ain't broke, I'll fix it for ya"
Norm, I know it is hard to believe and as ludicrous as it may sound, but that fine Marque of British Mechanical engineering had to make cut backs during the war years arms build up and delivery period.
The taps were originally of high tensile drop-forged lathe-turned annealed Sintered Bronze. Unfortunately the supply of drop forged annealed Sintered Bronze was needed more so for the manufacture of Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XIV Aviation Fuel tank cap hinges and accompanying split pins.
Spagthorpe Engineering Dept during that time adapted to the shortage by using what was thought to be High-Density Nylon Polycarbonate heat resistant material to manufacture the above mentioned Blinker Fluid taps.
After the war and the downturn in the need for Supermarine Spitfire fuel caps became apparent, much to the chagrin of the head Engineer at Spagthorpe they discovered that during the war years they had actually been manufacturing the taps from recycled compacted British Army Hobnail Boot lace packets. So as to avoid an embarrassing faux par they continued this practice until 1952.
" Don't worry, if it ain't broke, I'll fix it for ya"
Well I guess the engineers at Spragthorpe had to do what they had to do, if it hadn't been for those fuel tank cap hinges for the Mark XIV's who knows what the outcome might have been, the world would have been a completely different place. It also appears that the Spradthorpe engineers could give out current governments some advice on recycling, but my guess that trying to obtain Hobnail Boot lace packets could be a bit of a problem these days, but I'm sure if there was a market for the packets I doubt we would be able to manufacture enough of them so they could be recycled but China might possibly be interested in making them from our recycled rubbish they have stockpiled incase there was ever a shortage of this base material

Hello OF54 and Norm K Blinker fluid eh? Spragthorpe eh?
How many times have I been disappointed when asking for 'blinker fluid' at Supa-cheap ...
Many thanks OF54 for carrying on the tradition of fake news regarding the Spragthorpe.
Although ... it's a more dangerous thing today. Folks will believe anything ... because they 'trust'.
A classic tap-c o c k-and-bull story [see patent below]
Hi all, and I was thinking the $50 fuel tap would fit this Spragthorpe Motorcycle below, I have heard when some eBay sellers run out of stock they put an exorbitant price on the item so they don't have to delete the ad then advertise again when they have replenished stocks, they just lower the price when new stock arrives or possibly some sellers are just extracting the Michael.

Cheers Max.
That explains $888.00 someone wanted for four rechargeable AA batteries. I thought what is the world coming to?!? Thanks for posting that.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
Hi Jack, I started reading about how the tap was designed and all the problems surrounding it after 4 pages I came to the conclusion that at $50 that tap is very good value
