Hello all,

I have recently acquired another Scott Bonnar 45 for free it needs a bit of work so i am looking for some advice thanks. Pictures to follow it is a twin rail with an Tehumseh 3.0 Hp engine that runs but not well though it is hunting at all speeds so is this a carby problem? Also it needs a new catcher. Where can i buy one from. Also a new cylinder as one of the blades is missing.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Hi Hermosil,

If you could be so kind as to use the attachment manager and upload MP3 files to the site and not HECI files as most folks won't be able to open those, thus you won't get much in the way of any responses.

At this stage I can't see them and as such I can't help you out, but in saying that it seems as though the machine you have had donated to you has served a very hard life and will take quite a bit of money to get back into proper working order.

Also am I correct in saying that you are using a Mac at your end ?

Cheers,
BB.

The new iPhones and iPads use the HEIC format so a Mac can natively convert to jpeg or anything else easily.

Cheers,
TC.

Hi TC,

Thanks for doing that for us, I appreciate it greatly.

Hermosil's 45 is an early Series II machine that would've been built late 1972 into 73 and as such would've originally come with a HK25 Kirby Lauson engine fitted as standard.

Sadly it's hit something big time and thus broken a segment of blade out of the reel. These can be repaired by a good tradesman but not too many will do it nowadays. Most times the reel as a complete assembly would be substituted to solve the issue, but have you seen the price of reels since this SB craze has escalated out of control.

Cheers,
BB.

Thanks for your replies i did use the attachment manager sorry if the pictures didnt turn out i am using an apple ipad. Many thanks to the count for sorting that out. I agree with bonnar bloke that it must have hit something to cause that sort of damage. Also i know what you mean about the price of a new cylinder at around $425. I will have to see whether i can get the engine to run properly then think whether it is wort the expense of a new cylinder. It seems relatively easy to replace after viewing the excellent video by dj on the steps involved .

Hi Hermosil,

Sadly these old girls can easily become a "Money Pit", thus why most of the guys that used to refurbish them and flog them a profit have now stopped doing it. These are just way to pricey on parts nowadays with the bits and pieces having doubled in price in the past couple of years. The only way that you'd do it is if you are doing one for yourself long term to keep and use.

Cheers,
BB.
