have a look at my post on the same mower..... buggered gearbox, gears removed....
Now it my darft vader push mower....

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Would you still have the cogs and springs off your self propelled?

I cut them off, see the post. Nothing left. Mine was missing wheel cogs as well. Probably the gearbox was faulty.. Maybe yours is the same... That's why people take the cogs out...

I pulled the gear box out today and it seems fine. The pulley spins and so does the axle.

Hi spence16,

If the gearbox is ok then I'm guessing the PO pulled the gears out for the same reason I'm having problems with the one I have, easy to push forward no problems, but just about impossible to pull it backwards, with or without the motor running.
