I've been trying to turn a blind eye to the hard rubbish collection going on in our area this week but when I saw this I raced home and got the trailer.
Question is what have I got exactly? Has a Honda G40D engine and a Pressed metal grill unlike the mesh ones I've usually seen.
Looks complete and Original.

That's funny as my wife had similar thoughts on what I should do with it..
But honestly where does it fit into the model history of greenfield? I haven't been able to find a sequential list of models.

I'm not sure on the early ones, a couple of blokes here really know the ins and out of them, but I think the red one was the first model. As far as I remember the second model was yellow as were all the later models. What you have there appears in excellent condition with all the bits needed for a complete restoration. One member here gml had a red and yellow pair that were just mouthwatering to look at. Been a bit quiet here on the Greenfield front over the last few months

What you have there is the second evolution of the red model greenfield. Mark 1 had a seven slot grill, two piece rear body work and a dog clutch located on the deck and was only made for about a year, Mark 2 had the sixteen slot grill (to combat fuel boiling issues) and had the single piece rear body work incorporating the taper towards the steering wheel support panel, Mark 3 had a mesh grill and featured a G65 Honda engine, greenfield changed color to yellow soon after. your greenfield looks to be in great condition, just ripe for restoration. I think you greenfield would have been made in 1967-1969 but one of the local greenfield gurus will have to correct me on that.

An interesting find you have there! Greenfielder is on the money with his observations. It’s early in that it has a G40, a flat plate front axle pivot and steel steering arm rather than the later cast alloy type. That said it’s got the later cowl style and transmission cover as Grrefielder pointed out. I reckon it’s probably got the non-dog clutched deck as this came a later. I agree it’s probably ‘67 to ‘69.

A very interesting find. And you found it just before it went to the tip! Well done!......and shame on the previous owner.

Very nice find, it would be very cool even if you just got it up and running as a survivor!

As the others has stated it is way back there, My best guess would be '67 early '68. Greenfield went Yellow in 1970 and my red machine has the G65 and later style chassis which I date to '69.

Its unreal that people would throw something like that away!

Thank you all for the replies. I gave it a wash and there's more red paint under that dirt. I poured some fuel in the tank and tried to see if it would start but no luck. The air filter was only held on a couple of threads so perhaps the last owner had tried to get it running too and threw it out in frustration.
As I was washing off the layer of dirt the user instructions revealed themselves in front of the seat then they self destructed disappointingly.
I'm undecided what to do with it. It has plenty of paint on the front half but it's almost completely gone from the rear, possibly from being in an open shed with it's arse in the weather. The deck only has one crack and no chunks missing.
I was only thinking the other day as I mowed the lawn on my 10 year old Husky ride on how much more interesting it would be to mowing with a vintage ride on.

I do have a Farmall A but I haven't been able to locate a belly mower for it here in Australia.

Yes Greenfielder that is a forward control landrover project that has appeared in the back yard, a series 2b with a 4.4 Leyland v8 and dual cab.

That's a shame about the instructions, mine are gone as well.
The engine may just have a spark issue or something, these old Honda's are basically bulletproof
I am in the process of restoring my Yellow HD8 and for now my red one is staying rusty

They are definitely a different animal to a modern mower, yours will only have 5-6hp, so they aren't for the heavy going, that and the skinny little wheels make for a rough ride.
Also only being a 25" cut you'll do quite a few more laps of the yard!
