Hi guys, been a few years.....

So i got this McCulloch rideon (AKA Husky) and things were going well.
My son was on it and he said it started slowing down and smoking (Oh god)
Had a look and it chewed an idler to bits on the drive belt side of things. Ok, went to get new pully,
handed over the part number and was asked if i had the pulley on me. Noooo?
it's 70km away, why is that? You have the part number? can't you look it up and match the specs to something you have?
Well, no, they have several parts under one part No. and they change them all the time. Wachootalkinboutwillis.
ANYWAY, he gave me one, bought it home and fitted it after some 2 odd hours (what a mongrel setup!)

Got it going and let the brake\clutch out and when the pedal got right back as far as it could it started banging and jumping back and forth a bit.
WHAT THE FU.......If i put a bit of pressure on the pedal and move it maybe 25mil or so it's all good. Now i thought about this for a while and all i could come up with is when it was chewing the pulley and seizing up the belt that that stress may have damaged the trans. Looked underneath and couldn't see any probs, the linkage from trans to pedal was close to a pulley so i zip tied it close to the chassis side but no difference. ANYWAY, i tied some string to front of frame and wrapped it around the brake\clutch pedal and adjusted it till it didn't have it's epileptic fit.Got the grass cut.Now it's in the shed ready for an assault of random tools. It's a Tuff Torq K46 BA Transaxle. Havn't heard good things about those but oh well, it's all i got. Can anyone suggest why it's throwing a fit? I was thinking of lifting the linkage arm off the trans shaft end of things and moving it a couple of "slots" forward and refitting it, that would eliminate the STRING METHOD i have tied on the pedal but i would like to know WHY it;s doing it, maybe i'm better off NOT knowing smile Anyway, like to hear anyones questions\comments.

Cheers

Did you also change the drive belt and check all of the pulleys? A locked pulley will burn spots in the belt. One could be hang on a bad bearing and then releasing until it hangs again.

And I did one K46 that broke an axle in such a way that mower still move but clutch would jump around as you describe.

Hi AVB, no i didn't change the belt, doesn't seem to have a flat spot anywhere. Checked other pulleys, all good. i got on as soon as possible and cut the grass, NOW i can spend time sussing out what to do.

Won't as much as a flat spot but is narrowing of the v-belt backbone. Other words it may not be 1/2 wide anymore in one or more spots and it goes around a v-pulley the belt drops further down in the groove then must jump back up as it returns to the normal width. What I call a belt burn where didn't move when another was locked up. Just missing fabric in places can cause belt changing lengths.

Hope this makes sense.
