Hi,

This is my first post so hopefully I'm in the correct place. I've recently purchased a Scott Bonar Diplomat 430 series and am in the process of getting it ready. I'm in Cootamundra (Riverina, NSW) and just wanted to know if there was anywhere nearby (Wagga, Young etc) that could sharpen the reel and bedknife. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hi Hally,

Firstly welcome to "The ODK Forums".

As I'm not in your neck of the woods I can't help you in any recommendations of where and who. But in saying that the best I can offer is that you go to your local Bowling Club and ask them who they use. Generally they won't use amateurs and as such I wouldn't either. Those guys won't steer you astray.

I have to ask the question, why a Diplomat and not a 33 or 45 ?, was it based solely on purchase price ?

Cheers,
BB.

Hi BB,

Thanks for the advice. I liked the idea of a rear catcher and despite what I have read haven’t found it too difficult to work on so far. In saying that, I know finding parts when I need them might be difficult. It also seemed in good condition.

Thanks again for the advice.

Cheers.

The best way to buy parts for a Diplomat is to buy another one really cheap as they shouldn't be anymore than $50 a pop. Many have found they can't give them away, so my point being if you do like them ............buy em' and stock up on parts as none are available.

Cheers,
BB.

Yep, I think your right. The reason I liked the idea of a rear catcher is because I have a large area to mow and thought the weight of the clippings is better at the back than the front?

Honestly the concept of the catcher being at the rear is actually far better for getting into tighter areas but that's about it as far as I can see.

Cheers,
BB.
