Have been missing for a few weeks now - had some pretty serious surgery (detached retina) and that means 100% bed rest etc etc.... On the way to recovery and had a chance to do a maintenance mow at 18mm this weekend. To celebrate me getting outdoors for the first time in almost a month I thought I'd show off the twins!
The Couch is still asleep as you can see in the lower right hand side, but it's easy to fall in love with these machines when you can get stripes in Winter after not going near it for something like 6 to 8 weeks.. When you also compare the colour of mine against the others up the road, I'm very pleased for making the effort to improve the soil and do a few applications of humic, potash and phosphates before the cold set in.. I'll be doing a light top dress in 2 to 3 months and still 50/50 about needing an aerate... Will follow up that topic on the Lawn & Maintenance section when I've tweaked a few more items on the Master Plan...
Will resist a sharpen until after topdressing. Instead, I'll work on creating a backlapping motor/unit and have a motor from an HP plotter that looks to run at the right speed.
If I may suggest that you purchase a new Briggs sloper style engine as that will be far kinder on the rails of your chassis. This will certainly prolong the life of the mower. These newer style Briggs engines can be now had for around $250.
On the one piece solid engine deck groomer you'll have very few issues with those older thumping engines.

I live a 24 Hour lifestyle, but every now and again I seem to fall asleep, well at least that's what my wife tells me.
I'd spend $250 just to get clear access to fill the bloody fuel tank! Why someone thought wedging the tank where they did was ever a good idea I'll be stuffed...
Must be a bad camera angle - the groomer is also a twin rail and I guess the thread title becomes more of a play on words now?? You should be able to just see the grass between the real roller and back rail.
Toying with the idea of decals - I don't really care from that aspect as I know what it is. Might get a Count circle for the handlebars made up and I can't forget I still have the catcher/s to finish... I reckon I'll only do one as they are the same colour. It all depends on how much time I have and I'm happy to wait till next Autumn/Winter for that. I also need a deflector for the groomer and due to the violent nature of what it does to the material when in use, I'm looking at installing a piece of blown/moulded plastic from a truck water tank as it's 5mm thick, has a nice curve that may just suit and it should last better than thin sheet metal.
Off to find a deal on backlapping paste .. .. .. .. ..
