Hello ODK history lovers

The small Cooper air-cooled 4-stroke engines were licensed copies
of the North American Johnson Iron Horse. Cooper Engineering –
owned by the giant Sunbeam Corporation – would make a few models
under licence in Australia.

The designs of these small ‘sloper’ engines date to the 1930s,
when the Johnson Outboard Motor Company,



In Australia, production probably began during WWII, when small
engines were needed to power military generators and water
pumps, and the like.

Post War, these Cooper engines formed part of the Cooper range
of industrial engines, and were mainly used on agricultural machinery,
but some AUS mower makers did use them. These makers include
the Grasshopper reel mower. The Marino Mowall, and the Cooper
Rotary Slasher.

This manual is from my collection and it is mostly in good condition.
It is beautifully illustrated and of ‘the old school’ … of covering use,
maintenance and parts.

This was a time when makers took pride in giving their customers
comprehensive information.

I have divided this manual into two parts: - Use and Maintenance,
and then the Parts section. Here I provide a copy of the first part.
