A mate brought this in from the farm for me....... It's one of those....... A full crank, just got it home, wanted to show and tell...... What year is it and model?? My cat hasn't seen one before.... cheers lucky speedy

It's a side pull full crank so dates from the early 1980s sometime. I believe they are merely called the Victa Self Propelled. That one looks very sun stroked. Nearly all the plastic grill at the top has disintegrated. Does it run?
I also notice someone has fitted 8" wheels on the front when they were originally 6". Looks silly. Getting the original self propelled specific catcher would be very difficult. The latter series self propelled specific thumb latch catcher will fit and there is a much better chance of finding those as the professional series mowers with them were still being made in the 2000s. You can still order one new but not cheap at $150. Your pet panther also looks curious what this model is.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
Good find mate it's pretty sun faded there but it looks like you have a nice solid alloy deck with no major cracks or bits missing from what I can see. I have found 2 alloy decked Victa mowers here and both decks are cracked and chunks are missing from them.
I can just see the original Powerplus decal on the front of the plastic cowl. I had a look and it's featured in the Victa 1982 booklet as the Victa Powerplus lawnmower. Nice one with the factory electronic ignition system on that model.
Cheers!
Zip a dee doo dah, zip a dee ay, another trash picked Victa, hip hip Hooray!
Nice brocher Converse. I have a couple of side pull engines almost complete so that will make it easier. See if I can get the drive gear going... Seems to be missing levers on the handle... I'll have a closer look when it gets lighter. thanks speedy

I'd like to get the non propelling version of that powerplus mower as in the illustration. It sat above the Mustang due to it's powerplus engine. I have a self propelled one sitting in the garage with cable problems meaning it's stuck in gear. Plus it won't fire due to a suspected seal.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
Mine is locked out of gear, I guess it has been used that way.. The cable is missing.. It's another learning curve....... Waterblasted it today , sprayed with penetrating fluid Boston, and I'll start taking it apart next and paint base. There's no compression, but I have 2 other motors I can use....... can't wait to get started... speedy

Hi MF, Brightgal..... by Boston, at the right price..... There's a small crack in the front, from bashing into things I guess, but I can put a plate behind and a few rivits... She's on the bench.... waiting.. speedy

Hi MF, Can't you change the gear so it is locked in freewheel.? The base nut was so rested, it could hardly hold a socket which wouldn't move... I made flats and just used a big shifter, obvious but just a tip for new players. The drive lever is missing and cable is broken off 30cm from axle..... I'll put a good motor and run it as a push model untill can get a cable and lever, maybe make them. And anyone know how to remove that vbelt pully from the motor as I'll need it for the new motor..... That water blaster certainly cleans things up. cheers speedy

I don't know it's been sitting under a work bench untouched for over three years now. I will have to pull it out and have a tinker. You don't mess around...

Speedy, can't say I have pulled one of those to bits but it is a standard F/C so my belief is that the pulley should just tap off. It looks like the same pulley they used on the 4 strokes fitted to the 24"s
I took the carb and muffler off and cleaned them. It seemed to have some compression, so I put it back together... Bodgied up a fuel tank so It was open.... didn't bother with decompressor of complete decoke... Fixed the pull start, it was missing the side spring thing..... Anyway she started 2nd pull, so I let it run slowly as it probably hasn't for for years...... Then mowed the back lawn, not much grass here in Bundy as we are in a drought...... The height adjuster is siezed up , I'll just run it a bit spraying with penetrating fluid, that might loosen it up. And I I can't get the cable and lever, just use it as a push mower. I don't know how the gearbox is either.... I can't think of many things better that getting an old Victa going..... cheers speedy

I took the carb and muffler off, cleaned them, took flywheel off sanded coil and flywheel so surfaces were free of rust.. good spark and compression so I put it together, no decompressor. I sprayed penetrating fluid in plug hole toloosen up things. Bodgied up a fuel tank so I could see things. Had to fix the pull starter. It fired 2nd or 3rd pull...... let it run slowly for a start , then mowed the backyard, not much grass in Bundy as we are still in drought.... The height adjuster is rusted so put penetrating fluid on that as well. I don't know if drive gear and gearbox is ok, so will just use it as a push mower.. for a while.cheers speedy
