Oh gee I remember those days all to well. I must say though you dealt with many more sincere people back then to not all these whipper snapper flippers as they are nowadays.
The prices on the East Coast may have jumped up tremendously but here in Adelaide $300 is still top dollar for a machine that requires to be rebuilt. One thing that most Sydney siders don't understand and that is that South Australia is the Centrelink state, thus prices are reflected in that slogan.
The asking prices are still stupid here but the actual prices achieved are much lower than advertised. Sadly this practise of asking high and reducing prices so as to actually gain a sale is just not being seen publicly which sadly makes it all a bit of a false economy as most folk think the asking prices are what the actual item sells for which in 99% of times just isn't the case whatsoever. The way most sales go now is that the prices are cut in half to make the sale happen. This is how the terminology of Lowballing became the norm.
