Hello ODK History Lovers
News Cuttings was Victa’s official news publication to its dealer network.
Introduced in the late 1950s, it would be no more than a few pages in length.

This Summer 1969 issue is of interest because it presents the calm before
the storm. Thus far, Victa not only changed models year-to-year, but on the
cusp of a new decade, a whole new approach to Victa lawnmowers would
occur. We saw this with the 1960s – when Victa dramatically moved away
from its 1950s ‘toe-cutters’.

This early 1969 issue gives no hint of the dramatic change that would occur
in late 1969 – the introduction of Victa’s first high-arch jobs, the fantastic VCs.

Nonetheless, this Cuttings issue is really about optimism for the future and
belief in progress
. After all, this was the year of the first Moon landing.

Page 1 stories are all about optimism… WA expansion; optimistic weather
forecast for a good season; optimistic view of the economy. There was
even a plug for Victa’s on the Don Lane ‘Tonight’ show. A popular show i
n its day, cringe-worthy now.

Pages 2 stories are mostly about Victa – Victa’s great delivery service,
and Victa’s great Paint Shop. There’s also another scare article on
non-genuine parts.

Page 3 stories are about selling and the dealer network. At this time the dealer
network was truly international – with a great image from Salisbury, Rhodesia…

Page 4 does not follow the usual layout.
The focus is on Servicing Guide No. 66 –
Air Filter, Snorkel and Throttle Control Assemblies.
