There is a reason that 50% of these mowers for sale have a buggered drive. The motor I have here does not have the tang you refer to but it has nothing to do with the drive. You can get a new transmission for a couple of hundred dollars, wheel clutches for about $20 from memory, then you need to find the gearshift lever assembly, probably cost $100 if you bought a new one and then you have at least half a day to remove and replace the gearbox on a machine that is very heavy to get up onto a bench to work on it. I refuse to do them any more

The drive actuating bar on the handelbar has also been removed. This can all be repaired/replaced but it will be costly, just getting the parts and if you can do the work yourself. If not cost prohibitive for a drive that may not last long. From memory a mate of mine was quoted $600 to replace the box on his by a small local to him mower shop after I refused to replace it again
