Thanks Everyone. Bloody mower fired up straight away after I trickle charged the 'newish' battery. FYI drive pedal is adjusted correctly,everything is always well lubed, motor turns freely by hand, mower will rock back & forward whilst cranking no problem. It looks like battery or starter priblem, which would explain why it doesn't always happen. It's 20 years old so I expect some dramas! I will pull starter apart and inspect when I come home in a coupla weeks time. Thanks for all replies-much appreciated.
