PART TWO - SpecificationAll the Lightweights appear to have had a set of
common design elements:
- Alloy Block with cast iron liner
- Removable cylinder head
- Splash lubrication
- Air Vane governor (with optional mechanical)
- Recoil starters
USE IN AUSTRALIABecause of Villiers' presence in Australia, I do not believe and JAP branded
Lightweights were used here, but some may have arrived on imported machinery.
We know the Lightweight vertical was used on about half a dozen Australian rotaries
[see link]. To my knowledge, only one AUS manufacturer used the Lightweight horizontal -
a 75cc version, fitted to
Scott Bonnar's Model 40.
