Seems as though the early ones are single speed. The one I looked at had an 8hp Briggs side valve vertical crank dated 1986.
After having owned a Rover heavy duty 8hp slasher with a horizontal motor I like the design of the Greenfield better. Much lighter to manoeuvre and easier to lift the front end. Castor front end makes direction change far easier.
One negative on the Greenfield is the blade engage/disengage is located on the cutting deck.
