Another day, another gear start edger... this one has me a bit miffed though!
Just when i thought i was getting the hang of these repairs, i get a spanner thrown in the works!
What i have is a gear start tiltacut. Initially i have recognized an induction air leak (the mower did not respond to throttle action, would over rev and cut out in 20 or so secs from overheating).
I thought it was the carby but for good measure i decided to check the top seal (which was fine). After replacing the carby i have throttle response and a good rev range (just like in my other one which is flawless).
Now here is the part that miffs me, i run the edger at start/full speed and it will run, though when i begin using it to edge the kerbs, the edger seems to cut out, at which point i must pull on the starer 2/3 times to restart the mower! The mower is not running out of petrol as there isnt that typical short over rev cycles before it cuts out, its just that it seems to stop for no apparent reason. Sometimes i can hear the edger struggling so i correct the edger so it tries to correct its revs but no luck, it just dies out.
Would anyone have any idea what might be going on here?
