Just as an update, I have reinstalled the coil and there is no spark. When I can get a helper I will test some more with a spark cable tester just in case its a bad cable or connection somewhere. Oh and I will also remove the wires to the carbie to rule out those causing havoc.
I have been keeping an eye out on gumtree and will go to the tip when I get a chance to maybe find a donor motor. I will give it another few weeks and if no joy, its off to the tip ( or perhaps for parts on gumtree). Its had little use and has electric start, so its a shame really.
