Yes with all the problems that you get with kickback on the 24s it certainly pays to use a decomp on these mowers with less rotating mass on the crank Norm. I put up a Youtube video of a Powertorque with no blade plate and started the mower many times without the slightest kick back.The engine was off a 460 Utility and had a slightly heavier crank hub than normal.

One problem could be the standard 160 on a 24 uses a high comp head and when using another engine from
another model it will have a lower comp ratio.(low comp head)
