I too have noticed that ( in Sydney I refer to only) itβs becoming increasingly difficult to locate the old mowers like I used to be able to. Seems like the only way to acquire them now, and I mean the real wrecks that used to exist on the kerb, is to pay for them.
E bay/gumtree-$30-$40, so I did that and parted an old commando and another one out. Coils and module were perfect, resistance on module and coil both low, in the order of 6-7 k ohms.
The other area I would ask others of, is does anyone ever bother dealing with the surface rust that builds up on the soft iron E core? I usually sand if bad, apply the usual phosphoric acid, then black enamel. Any one else do this to help them survive? Techniques???
