Engine is a chonda - pretty sure they are a Loncin 1P65FA - which does have an MTD number (2P something)
Having been through a similar thing before, it is hard to search MTD rover if you aren't 100% on the ball and have tonnes of time
Have contacted a friend for you who has access - turns out if you look up the MTD engine number 2P65ht the parts come up
Here is a screen shot he has kindly sent
And after all that - Rover says their own part number isn't valid - or its NLA
Not good with electrics - but maybe a voltage regulator could be put in the wiring?
