Hi All,

Well I made the mistake of assuming that an older gent selling me a B&S/Davey fire pump was trustworthy (a.k.a 'Yes, it runs fine - I just don't have any petrol here to show you.") - thats my mistake entirely.

Anyway the engine is a B&S Industrial Plus 5hp 133432 Type: 0035 03

The issue I have found with it is that he's put it away for several years with a carb full of fuel and it's gummed to heck. I've removed the carb, have managed to open it, have been spraying it for several days with SCA Carb & Throttle cleaner. It's making slow progress.

The carb even if I manage to clean it fully, is going to need all the seals replaced - AT THE MINIMUM - so I wonder if buying a new carb is the smarter route?

From using the B& S parts list I can find that the entire carb assembly is part #495652
https://www.briggsandstratton.com/a...admanual.133432003502_IPLURL_LO.pdf.html

I've had a quick look and can't locate this part anywhere - so unsure if I should just plow ahead with cleaning it and get a seal kit or can locate a suitable replacement carb.......so your sagely expert advice would be welcomed.

Thanks in advance,

Nick
