When you day loud is that knocking loud ? might need to adjust the governor spring tension if the throttle control isn't adjusting revs. Check the throttle cable adjustment as well. If the mower hasn't run for a long time it's not uncommon for the smoke to clear after running for 10 mins or so ( if the engine is ok )
What grade of oil did you put in ?
