Hello all,
It has been hard not spilling the beans yet, but wanted to see if this thing worked out.
Just finished up 'repairing' my newest acquisition, and from the looks of it, I will be flogging off my Tornado.
Today, I attended meetings for work regarding the big C. We got off early, and I looked on my phone for any local salvage yards, and came across one near Cabramatta.
The usual building materials, etc etc. I headed into the office building, and noticed a caged room to the right with quite a number of mowers there. One immediately took my interest; a late model Victa Mustang. It looked new. No really, new as in not used at all. It was parked with a bunch of other mowers all priced around the $50 to $70 mark, and it had a sign on it "not working".
I couldn't see what the hell could be wrong. Was it straight fueled on the first attempt to run it? The wheels had no grass marks. I looked underneath, nope, the blades were new. Everything on the mower looked new.
I took off the fuel cap, ah, petrol...but not straight petrol. I could see there was something like a big black blob on the bottom of the fuel tank, and petrol on top. I had a hunch. I took off the fuel line and black muck oozed onto my hand, so I quickly replaced it.
I wheeled it over to the counter, and asked young Mustapha, who was playing with his phone, whether he would take $50. He looked up for a second, "Fifty" he said. No worries, heres your money Mustapha.
After I got home, in between all the normal duties with the kids, dinner, baths, etc etc, I have been cleaning the fuel tank and Carburettor. Someone had obviously dumped a sh*t load of very thick engine oil into the tank, and then put petrol on top, and well it didn't work out for them..... A new mower. I didn't mention the manuals were in the catcher did I? Yep, they were in the catcher.
So, everything was cleaned out, and dried out. And I tried the mower (briefly, it is night time...) and started first pull, with a smoke blast. Sweet, sweet engine, but I will give it a full run tomorrow to burn off the rest of the oil. I felt like I was having a dream....but it gets better.
I picked up the manuals to take into the house, and a piece of paper falls out.
A receipt for sale.
A mower shop over in Bankstown sold a gentleman A Victa Mustang 2 stroke mark V (?) on 17th January 2019 for $799.
It is still under warranty. Yeah, I am still digesting it myself. I have to take a picture of this tomorrow and try to get it on here. It is similar to the ones you see with a google image search, except it has a bluish grey and black cowl, instead of the red and black.
So much for Friday the 13th eh? You couldn't make this stuff up, seriously.
