Hi, I am new to this forum and if what I am posting is in the wrong section I hope the Moderator will simply move it to the correct one and notify me please. I bought a 5hp Rover Chipper Mulcher cheap as it was not going, it was in really good condition so I deducted its problem would not be serious, it wasn't but I managed to make it so.
Initially it would run if I started it with Aero Start and switched to petrol but if I cut it off for a few minutes it would not re start. I like my machines to work as designed so that was not what I wanted to be doing every time I wanted to use it.
I found the carburetor and steel tank were heavily rusted and gunked up, I cleaned the carb,( so far Ok) I then turned my attention to the tank, it was thick with gunk and rust, I used acid but it would not shift it so I tried scraping, here is where I came undone, there is a fuel collection bowl in the top of the tank, it fell to the bottom of the tank and there it stays.
I tried modifying the carburetor to do without the tank fuel bowl to scavenge fuel from the bottom of the tank with two dip tubes but that did not work, so I have a really nice mulcher that will probably require either a new/replacement tank and carburetor or a new/replacement tank depending on what is available out there. Advice on how to modify what I have to work would also be appreciated. p.s. I am in Queensland Australia
Many thanks for any assistance Graeme
