G'day i'm not familiar with these 4 stroke engines but that one in the video he seems to get down to a pretty slow idle. I always thought 4 strokes idle faster because of the engine design? Do these new 4 strokes now idle down pretty slow like a 2 stroke so you can empty the catcher easier? That's probably the only thing in the video that i'm interested in...lol
Anyway here's probably one of the last Victa ads from a few years ago featuring a 2 stroke mower. It's for Victa Gold Dealers, now the one and only place left if you want to get one of the last remaining Victa 2 stroke lawnmowers.
Zip a dee doo dah, zip a dee ay, another trash picked Victa, hip hip Hooray!
Now look at the imported junk they're peddling in it's place. No oil changes necessary he says. So you can get a new one sooner? Patronising host says Victa innovation while featuring a proudly made in U.S.A label on the Briggs supplied motor. This is the future folks.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
Haha that's a classic ad there Mowerfreak, you NEVER have to change the oil EVER! LOL! Yes I understand that these new synthetic oils do last longer between oil changes, but c'mon you never have to change it! Yes that's what they want so the engine dies and you go out to Bunnings toy section and buy a new one again. The next thing they will do is remove the dipstick completely so you can't check the oil at all. Like most late model cars that no longer have dipsticks to check the automatic transmission fluid etc. It's a joke!
Another funny thing with that ad, oh it's so quiet you won't disturb the neighbours or even your own house, but he chucks on the ear muffs because it's SO quiet! LOL!
Cheers!

And notice how he tugs the rope hard and lets it go toward the end. That'll shorten it's already short lifespan. What if you just decide to change the oil anyway? Will the motor last several times longer that way? Doubt it somehow.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
Also what's a joke is he mentions "When you think Victa, you think tradition", mate anyone that's used a Victa in the last 50 years or so, when they think "Victa" they think "2 stroke"! See how they are trying to sway people away from even thinking about the 2 strokes now.
Oh well for the younger generations now these are probably their first ever Victa lawnmower with a B&S 4 stroke. I wonder if they can start it and stop it with an iphone or similar device? LOL!
You know when you see that deck and catcher, you think of Victa 2 stroke tradition and history, no matter what engine they bolt onto it. The heart and soul of that design is classic Victa 2 stroke! lol.
You're right Mowerfreak about how ugly that B&S engine looks just plonked on that deck, the old Victa 2 stroke engine and cowl looked much better on that deck.
Also looks like the air filter on these engines is near the engine, they done away with the snorkel and filter up high like the classic Victa's. I tell ya the amount of dust around here I think I would have to remove and clean or change that air filter after one really dusty mow.
Cheers!

Converse Victa is about the only one that uses a snorkel, the odd Rover had a snorkel but the 4 strokes all have a low level filter, easier to make the motors fit in a box as they are manufactured. Another thing I did notice is that you can cut the grass wet or dry. Cutting it wet will end up a race to see what fails first the base or the motor, either way they won't be worth picking up off the side of the road in a few years time Another thing I am curious on is are these motors being made in the US, I thought all Briggs motors were now being made in China, except for one of the bigger ride on motors. My belief would be that these are shipped to Aus in boxes as complete mowers not bases from China and motors from the US shipped to Aus and assembled here and then reboxed. I can't see US made motors being shipped to China to be fitted on these. I think there is a few porkies being told here or maybe it is just the cynic in me, either way the public is being hoodwinked
G'day everyone yes it's also written in fine print at the bottom of the "Made In USA" sticker on the Briggs And Stratton engines "Engine made in the USA of US and global parts".
Anyway time for a real lawnmower ad again...lol
As Paul Hogan said in Crocodile Dundee about the punks trying to rob him with a pocket knife, here is the lawnmower version! LOL!
Dundee looks up at last Victa TV ad with B&S engine and says "Ha That's Not A Mower!".
Dundee looks at the ad in this post featuring an aussie 2 stroke mower and says "Now That's A Mower!" lol
Cheers!

Wow. Good one Converse. That's when Victa was the real deal, in the golden 70s. That guy sure liked his green Mustangs, or in this case, a sole Mustang lol.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!
Yes Mowerfreak that certainly was Victa's advertising man for the green Mustangs! LOL!
This video might be a bit long to watch the whole thing, but he's got the right attitude as we have about saving Victa 2 strokes. I also like his video description on youtube...lol
Cheers!

Maybe in years to come a PT motor in this condition may be worth saving but at present it is only for somebody who has a particular reason to spend that money on one. I have 40 motors here that are in much better condition than that one and to me they are still not worth restoring
I personally think that in the modern era of Victa's that cowl on the Grey one above is probably the best looking dress cowl on any Victa. It's rather modern and slick opposed to that early square boxy looking things on those Commando type looking machines. I've never seen the Two strokes as beautiful looking engines but this cowl makes it look rather sexy in my eyes.
I just sold an identical unit here a week ago that was a side of the road pick up and it just walked away on the first call as it excited the purchaser just like it did me when I first saw it as a wreck.
Cheers, BB.
I live a 24 Hour lifestyle, but every now and again I seem to fall asleep, well at least that's what my wife tells me.
Not according to this man. He actually swapped the motor over from a good thumb latch body with good catcher, over to a steel deck! He needs to be committed to think that was the way to go.
