Hi all,

I'm on the hunt for a good set of wheels for my trusty Masport that does my scalping every year. The existing wheels have plenty of axle wear in them and the right hand front wobbles around big time.

Time for a freshening up as it's still got a great rust free chassis and a superb Quantum 35 on-board.

Happy to pay for them but they need to be the same sizing.

Cheers,
BB.

BB, 1/2 inch wheels should be no problem to come by all mowers except Victa use 1/2 inch. If they have speed clips on them just hammer the clip in a bit tighter

Deffo a cut above Victa. A shame the wheels have those terridly horrid clips holding them on.
Wait a minute, could the wobbling be due to the clip sliding outward a bit?

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Hi MF,

No the holes are flogged out as it's done a lot of work over the past 20 years that I've had it. It was near new when I bought it at Auction back in 1999.

Cheers,
BB.

G-day B_B,

a guy around the corner let me have a Maspy recently with a dead Briggs 375 (Not a Rolls Royce of four-strokes Qantum) and I just took the starter off and discarded the rest. It had no catcher but a good chassis including the wheels. It's a shame I couldn't have mailed you the entire front axle and save on removing those deuced clips. I remember thinking what a great frame it had all round. I'm sure yours will be back on the road in no time smile.

Sorry BB, I don't have any sets of good wheels I could offer you except I have an abundance of Lawn Beetle ones but they are all 6 inch. I could re bush yours but postage back and forth gets a bit exy

Hi Norm,

Firstly thanks for the response.

As far as Bushing goes I had thought of that previously and just haven't gone any further with it. I thought of inserting brass tubular bushes into a drilled out hole of the corresponding size and then I thought of turning up some industrial grade nylon and inserting that, but these are just ideas atm and as such it seems like you've done this before.

How would you envisage doing this particular job ?

Cheers,
BB.

B-B I thought you were in the mower aristocracy of reel mowers, not this rotary "nonsense".
I guess they have their place after all, as long as they're not the one bolt trick Victa.

BB I just put the wheel in the lathe, bore the center true again. I have a couple of different diameter Delrin rod, I turn that to suit the wheel and bore the center to suit the axle, time consuming I know but sometimes I just have to do what I have to do. Wheels are the bug bear of every mower I build
