G'day All,
I recently picked up a 2hp 45 off the side of the road. ( neighbour threw it out ) I have grand ideas of restoring it as a father son project.
Help to show the basics of an internal combustion engine etc.
I found some numbers which are as follows; 60102 0302 01 700107.
Which parts etc. should I be ordering

Howdy Phil,

It's a 2 HP Silver Briggs engine that was built on the 7th of January 1970, that's assuming the air / starter cowl being the original fitment to the block. This engine was used on the 14 inch Model 45 from day one of production of the 45's until they swapped over to Kirby's across the full range and then went to full Briggs across the range.

Cheers,
BB.

G;day Phil and Mod BB,

This would be a great father-son project.
The 45 is a great exemplar of quality design.

Your son could learn about conical and plate clutches, bearings,
differentials, chains, reduction ratios and basic 4-stroke design.

You are in good hands with Mod BB, should you need advice on this.

Please keep us informed as the project progresses.

G'day Ken,
I didn't try to start it as I'm using at as a learn how to fix/ restore things. My son wants to upgrade his car. So I thought we could learn some basics first.
In saying that, it had about 60 psi on a compression test and had a strong spark
Probably didn't need to come apart but hey where's the fun in that?
Cheers
Phil
P.S Plug was very black on removal though

G'day BB,
Is there any way of knowing if its original at all? The base plate has a badge saying mower number 13313.
Cheers
Phil

Hi Phil,

There's absolutely no way of correlating the two together as they are products of two different manufacturers. There are hardly any SB records in existence as most were destroyed by Rover when they took over the business back in 1980.

The mower number doesn't mean a helluva lot apart from the sequence number of another product that SB made.

To be brutally honest here, the best way you can help us to help you is to put plenty of photos up on this listing and I'll do my best to identify it for you.

Cheers,
BB.

G'day Phil and Mod BB

With takeovers, it is common for company records to be lost.

I would think most early records were not transferred when Electrolux took over
the original SB company in 1970.

If anyone can give you a good assessment it will be Mod BB.
He has asked for images because there are specific identifiers that
may match your engine to the chassis.

Hope this helps
