I am looking for some Briggs & Stratton recoil starters and cowls.
Going back 10 years ago these were everywhere. Nowadays they seldom appear on ebay or gumtree. I remember I had so many in the past at one time I was giving them away. Isn't it always the way? Things that were once very common suddenly become hard to find.
I am sure somebody must have one or two spare ones lying around that they don't need?
No, I actually want one for a vertical! What is the difference? In my experience you can use a horizontal on a vertical and vice versa! At least I always have. Sometimes you have to re-rivet the recoil so you are pulling from the rear of the mower, but really, what is the difference?
Thanks Jack, That is what I thought. Yes, the side pull starters are the only ones that required a different cowl design. I think one time I used a horizontal shaft cowl on a vertical shaft cowl, I had to drill a tiny hole in the side of the cowl to mount an oil dipper, but that was about the only difference. I can only think BB must mean "horizontal pull" as opposed to "vertical pull". The vertical "side pull" starter required the addition of a cog on the bottom of the flywheels. Earlier flywheels did not have this "cog" on the underside. The side pull starters are still fairly easy to obtain, but this may not be the case in future. I have a large box full of them.
