Hi Tubes,
I have to concur with Jack as I've recommended the Greenfield to my best friend and he absolutely loves it and calls it best toy ever.
If you had to pick a winner out of the two you've suggested I'd probably pick the former of the two as Ryobi are just not even a serious contender, nothing wrong with the Subaru engine just a crap chassis, much like the Victa chassis' that I'm not a great advocate of as I've been known to voice my opinion on this forum, thus I'd pick the Greenfield every day of the week, but in saying that, as you are in Perth I'd select the Poly catcher option over the standard mesh version.
Best of luck with your choice, but for me it's the Greenfield every day of the week.
Cheers, BB.

Hi Phil, don't be fooled by the Victa with a Honda fitted, been there done that bought 2 of then some years back shocking machines that were expensive at the time. Motors were obviously a very downgraded Honda, obviously the beginning of the Chondas, not the real Honda deal.

Hi Tubes,
The Greenfield "Longreach" with the Poly Catcher option is around $820 from memory and without it's just under $800. Sadly there are next to no dealers that keep them on the showroom floor, basically Australia's best kept secret.
There's a dealer in South Australia that has stock of the Enduro Longreach fitted with the High level Vanguard engine and air filter snorkel. The costing was $869 all up and for that you'll get a superb long lasting mower.
BTW. I have to agree with Norm's comment that he posted above. The Victas are not all they're cracked up to be.
Cheers, BB.

The Ryobi is a waste of time - real crap chassis / good engine

hi all looking at buying a new mower (i have 6 and none work) my 15 year old victa vortex needs a engine overhaul ( rings are shot) Geez mate, if the body and catcher are still decent and you don't want to go to the trouble of stripping down the motor, just bid on the myriad of Victa 2 strokes with that awful steel body on Ebay.and simply transfer the motor over onto your alloy decked Vortex. It's quite easy to do. Don't spend $$$$ on a fancy four stroke when you have a presumably great Victa body to whack another 2 stroke onto!!!! It's the body that is usually the weakest link with a Victa. Many would love to be in a position of having a shot motor and good chassis.
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

And putting in a set of rings is pretty simple. Had a bloke contact me last week asking if he could trade in his Victa 24 because it had low compression for one of my running ones and I suggested just put a set of rings in his. Never heard back, some people just don't get it.
