I have a Rover XDS46 self propelled mower but no catcher. Catchers at the local dump are in short supply as there is a chicken farmer who buys the whole lot for nesting his chickens. Any way I was wondering if somebody could post a picture of the correct catcher for it. I have one of the standard catchers that fit the push mower of the same type but it won't fit because of the drive mechanism space being used up. Does anyone know if I can just cut a compensating piece out of the standard catcher?

G'day sparker,I would just cut the difference out of the standard catcher so it fits the self propelled.I usually cut the catchers
with a hacksaw as tin snips etc. can crack the catcher.

Cheers Max.

A multi tool would do it pretty neatly too. I found a Rover catcher with the cutout for the self propel models. A shame you are in Queensland as we could have done an easy swap.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Thanks guys. I have a multi tool that works great on plastic. Have you actually done this Maxwestern? I was worried that it would weaken the catcher too much. The one in your picture has reinforcing along the edges.

I have a few of those catchers, I knew they were Rover but at least I now know what Rover they fit
Sparker I don't think cutting it would cause a problem

If I have a broken catcher I cut the catcher right across at the front and this removes the loose
cracked ends and that stops the catchers cracks from expanding or I just cut the broken corner off.

Some sheet metal riveted on both sides will hold a very damaged catcher together.

I can't say how long a catcher will last with a little of the front section removed but I have given people
catchers like this and they have never needed another catcher.

I would just cut the section out and see how it goes if the catcher flexes and starts to crack, use araldite
and glue the reinforcements back in or rivet some sheet metal on.

Drilling a small hole (3mms or so) at the start of the crack will put a stop to their spread. Then the patching can begin.
I took a section off the corner of a catcher once and tithe small gap resulted in clippings spitting out. I had to put electrical tape over it and it has held ever since. I just wish I knew the drilling trick before.

You wouldn't know it been hacked. Can you do this conversion on the thumb latch Victa catchers? They seem to require a longer tongue going into the body.

I thought all Victa catchers were, well universal fits. Even the new black ones (the Lawnkeepers) fit the older victas. What are the thumb latch types?

Getting catchers to fit different mowers is possible it just depends on how much time you are
willing to spend modifying parts.

eg. Victa thumb latch catcher on a Rover.

I have a Victa catcher and someone has riveted another catchers front lower section on.
