Looks like it was at either Scammel's or Lachies Auction House down at Welland.
Anyway it's a great survivor which you should use as it is, providing that the Kirby is running well. I love the good ones that are still all original and not molested.
If you require any help with it, I'm also here in Adelaide.
Cheers, BB.
I live a 24 Hour lifestyle, but every now and again I seem to fall asleep, well at least that's what my wife tells me.
the 20 inch was from Scammel's as you suggested. One of the lads at the pick up zone was telling me it came from Adelaide oval when I went to pick it up and hadn't been started in 20 years. Rolled it out onto the front lawn and first pull it started with fresh fuel. I plan to keep this one as it is but I might seal the reel up with a clear coat. Also, thanks for the offer to help out.
Hi everyone, I got the mower primed and painted with the free time I had after New Years. It came out a bit light in my opinion however, it will have to do for now.

I note that the paint is South Australian "Protec" brand ? Did you use the standard off the shelf colour "Olive Green" or was it custom mixed using a sample from your mower which Protec will do ?
Glad to see you painted the reel and not powder coat it. Who did the reel grind ?
Lots of questions I know but that's the sort of information that new members look for, much like you did I guess. It's all about the journey AND the destination here on ODK.
BTW the green looks ok IMHO, also have you received the new sloper Briggs engine ?
Cheers, BB.

thank you both for your kind words, as for the details though please read below:
PAINT:
The paint was sourced from Protec and was not mixed to match (colour - Olive Green). This was because the sample given did look under their lights like the original as I did compare it with a piece of the mower. To paint the mower I used a etch primer from Dulux as I sandblasted the entire mower back to bare metal. The hammertone paint was thinned out using enamel thinners and then applied using a spray gun. the reel on the other hand was sprayed using a Dulux pressure pack (spray can) over etch primer masking of the shaft on either end for the bearings. In addition, to further protect the reel, 3 gloss clear coats were sprayed over the paint. On the other hand for the front roller assembly and various other parts, a zinc spray was applied and protected using a clear coat.
The reel and bed-knife were ground by "Steve Rose" at Australian Saws & Blade and Cylinder Blade Sharpening Service on Research Road Pooraka, SA. I also had Steve replace the bearings and the bed knife screws while he was at it. Furthermore, the holes for the bed-knife had a tap passed through for extra measure.
The 3.5 hp Briggs and Stratton engine was bought off of Ebay from PowerMower located in SA for around $250 at the time. (See link for the shops website for engine). The Stickers were sourced from Ebay along with the red plugs, grass catcher supports, replacement keys (for the clutch shaft, reel sprocket, and engine sprocket) and all new corks (clutch and thrust pad).

Thank you very much for your very comprehensive "go to links" for a Model 45 Restoration.
I understand that you've gone to a lot of effort to compile all this information and its superb that it's all in one post, but sadly all of the eBay links will in a very short time become defunct as the listings will all end and are relisted time and time again. Anyway it will give many potential restorers a good idea as where to look for many of the most commonly used bits and pieces that are sourced to do the whole job as you've done.
One thing that is missing I've noticed in all the photos is the handle bar assembly, what is happening there ? painting or Electroplating ?
I'd love to see it re-plated but we all understand if the cost refers you back to painting it. There aren't many plating shops left in Adelaide so there's not much competition in pricing. Sadly there have been just too many EPA rules and regulations introduced which makes it no longer cost effective to Electroplate here in Australia unless you charge like a wounded bull, which is pretty much what they all do now.
I guess all you have to do is see what's happened down Mitchell Park / Melrose Park way with all the ground water contamination that's come from all the Plating Shops etc. that used to be down in that area that were just pumping their waste plating solutions out all over the ground which was common practice in many industries for too many years.
Now it all has to be contained and transported to a Chemical processing plant to nuetralise it which costs huge money. Every shortcut has its ramifications I guess and now we have to live with the consequences of that stupidity that was engaged in for too many years.
Anyway I'm going slightly off topic here, but I still love to see a nicely chromed set of handle bars which compliment all the other hard work that's been done on the main working part of the machine.
Well done so far and we're looking forward to the next batch of photos as this project nears its completion point.
BTW what's happening with that lovely 20 inch Ex Adelaide Oval Scotty you bought recently ?
Cheers, BB.

I've decided to leave the handle bars all original since they cleaned up really well with Coke and aluminum foil. As for the rest of the mower I hope the pictures attached answer all your questions. Also, I plan on making the 17 inch a groomer down the line and using the 20 inch machine as is.
Lastly, I would like to thank everyone here for all their help and support!
Cheers. Nicholas

All images have been resized and been now moved into the above post.
But I thought I would provide a before and after photo just to show all members the transformation from when Nicholas first posted this machine on this thread last year and how its been finished this year.
Cheers, BB.
