I have a Rover with a Suzuki 2 stroke motor that is hunting on the governor. I have pulled the carb, haven't stripped it yet but is there anything I should look for that would cause this. Apart from that it is a great little motor and doesn't appear to have done a lot of work.

Hi Norm, here's a link to a long and thorough Suzuki 2 stroke carb rebuild and diagnosis posted earlier here on ODK
Here's the link

Thanks bigted, my head was hurting after reading the first 3 pages, I must admire Grumpy's patience

Is it like reading on the fine workings of rocketry?
If so, it is off to the cliff with mine!

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

MF, I solved this one after cleaning the carby still no improvement, so I fitted an adjustable plate across the inlet to control the leanness in the carb and it got rid of the hunting. They are a shitty carby and shitty design but a cracking little motor let down by somebody who just got too smart with the carby. The Victa LM carby is just so far superior to this bit of temperamental kit.

I stick with Victa 2 strokes thanks. I might wack a B&S onto mine. The dilemma is that the axles have a lot of play on the Rover but the Supa-Swift donor mower has chipped alloy at the front, no catcher but tightaxles and great wheels!!

MF I don't want to think about the time I have spent messing with this stupid mower, the carby problems just beggars belief and when reading the pages that bigted linked it to, you can easily see why no mower shop would attempt to repair them and that is why they are all in an obvious state of having not done a lot of work because the carby is rubbish. I would love to fit an LM carb on it to see how it went but it is not worth wasting the time on it, it is only worth $50 on Gumtree anyway, if that.

Since when has the monetary value been a consideration for you anyway. Don't you want to just see if you can do it? I reckon one of those simple brass piston type carburettors may be worth a try. it would be an accomplishment to make one run reliably.

MF I just don't have the time to continue messing with it regardless of what it is worth, I have far too many mowers here that I have never looked at, I'm trying to go through them to work out what is worth keeping and what is not, I need to clear some space.

MF don't despair with your Suzuki, I quite like this one now. It starts easily and runs well, great little machine. If you have done as I did with cleaning the carby, making sure there are no air leaks on any of the gaskets and it still hunts do as I did. Cut a strip of sheet metal to put across the throat of the inlet bolted to one of the carby studs inside the air filter, that way you can adjust the strip up and down till you get the right airflow balance to get it to run correctly. As I said great little mower with years of life left in it now, many would have been dumped because of this silly carby
