Hello I am having a problem with my Villiars mark 10 (v carby) stationary engine, which is running a small concrete mixer. It will only run with the strangler closed. If I open the strangler, after warm up, the engine cuts out. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hello Millzy 555 I found the manual some months ago and set the carby as per instructions, so I think there has to be another reason for this problem, but thanks for your interest and advice.

Hello Chesh and Millzy The symptoms you describe suggest a carby overhaul is needed. Setting the carby is the first step in diagnosis. Next step - carby overhaul and re-set as per Millzy's advice.
All the basic checks should be carried out first - compression, spark, fuel ... The initial suspect - after the basics - lies with fuel.
Please tell us how you go. Many thanks to Millzy for the link.

Hello Millzy and Jack, I've cleaned the fuel tank, filled up with fresh unleaded fuel? { hope this could not be the cause.} the compression is 100pc, and has a good strong spark, it seems the only thing left is to pull the engine out, put it on the bench, and start work on that Carburetter. I will keep you posted. Thanks.

Hello all, I would go through the carby and give it a good clean, gaskets are available from John at rusticspares.com.au if the engine was on a mixer it is probably set for running that load and will need a bit of attention for running light. Also give the air filter a good clean out as the gauze is usually blocked up.
Must be running very lean

Hi Millzy, I removed the air filter, sprayed Nutcracker into the port, replaced the filter, problem solved, the Engine is running great. Thanks for your interest and advice.
