Hi, I recently acquired a Rover Ranger xc 5244 model and am having issues with installing the final drive chain. I measured the existing rusted old chain and purchased a new one of exactly the same size to suit the xc model but it seems to be one link too short. I can't see anyway of adjusting the rear axle or gearbox. I couldn't find much in the way of info with this issue, so any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers!
Is that model Number actually XC 52144? If it is, we do have access to a Parts List and Owner Manual. From that, it looks to me that it has two drive chains. Rover calls these the 'gearbox chain' and 'axle chain'.
Did you purchase the chain as a Rover spare part, or just as cut-to-length chain?
Cheers, Gadge

Go and buy yourself a half link joiner, it will probably solve the problem for you. If they are like the Rover Rancher the adjustment is via an idler wheel.
This is an XC - and as Gadge suggested, there may be a difference between the XC 5244 and the XC 52144. It would be a minor difference, I think. The Model 53 is the Auto Drive; the Model 52 is the Gearbox Drive. Both have steering wheels. Tiller steering stopped with the Model 51.
