Hi Norm
The Sale Heading is misleading. The auction is for seven lawnmowers and more.
Probably a good buy for a Victa guy.
Cheers Jack

My bad Jack, I just saw the heading and didn't look any further, but even with it being 7 mowers and bits, the Toecutter is the most sought after and is probably a $50 machine in that condition. Most Victa collectors/restorers are usually looking for a bargain that is worth restoring and good value. Be interesting to see if it gets any bids

Dreamin' don't you mean deluded ?
As Norm suggested, the Victa 18 is the only one that would attract any interest. He would've been better at starting the auction at 99 cents and see what interest is generated and if it's not enough at the final 13th hour chicken out and pull the listing. As I always say, what is the motivation to sell ? or is there any genuine motivation at all ?
Cheers, BB.

Hello Norm and Mod BBNot quite so, and I disagree there. There is no dreaming or delusion. There is increasing interest in 1960s and earlyn 1970s Victas, and some of these are very much collectable. I am frustrated, though, that many Victa models have been neglected from this period. The models on offer form a record of the 'toecuttter' base from mainstream 1950s to specialised use in the 1960s and 1970s. I hope a Victa Utility collector will see the bargain, and these mowers stay as a collection. ----------------------- Jack

700+ for what used to be on every second kerbside rubbish pile and fill under every second house in the 1980s. Wow. Imagine what the currently unloved power torque mowers will be worth in someone's mind in thirty years?
Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

Mowerfreak, that is the way it goes in this world, everything gets thrown out once it gets old or stops working, then whatever is left remaining gets sought after by collectors

When you think about it figure roughly $70 a mower then add on the parts value $700 isn't all that unrealistic in my opinion considering when a set of 18 wheels now fetch a few 100 for a decent set wouldn't really be a bad investment if you had the space to sit on them for a few years they aren't going to become any easier to come across and parts are only going to get harder to come by . Just my 2

Agreed but the only wheels that have become highly sought after are the Victa 18 Toecutters. As Jack says the rest have been ignored and I would never expect them to achieve the "cult" following of the Toecutters and this is what drives the prices up. The others are only sought by a few collectors. This is not saying this lot should be discarded, I'm just saying his expectation is too high. Not long ago I bought 5 of these older Victas plus 2 good steel catchers from around this era for $50 and 3 of them were running

I think of it in terms of once the more desirable ones become out of reach of most getting into collecting they look to the next best thing which would be the utility models or the corvettes etc cause they are still common and affordable they may not ever reach the desirability of the toe cutters but I reckon comes back on what the person is into and there will always be people who want everything for next to nothing definitely not implying that you are one of those people was meaning in general I haven't been lucky enough to find any good deals like that I generally happy to part with $50-100 per mower cause I don't plan on reselling I buy cause I want that particular one. I personally see the value in what he has there it may be on the top end of what it's worth at the end of the day good luck to him .

A few years ago I picked up a trailer load of Victas, from memory 6 Toecutters, one was restored in very good condition,a couple of good condition Utilities, about 10 motors and a few boxes of parts, all for $200. I sold the Utilities straight away for $160 and then a few days later the bloke I bought them from came around and wanted to buy the restored Victa back. I sold it back to him for $100 because I felt a bit bad about it. I still have the remaining Toecutters here and they all are running. Sometimes good deals come along, you just have to keep looking.

Sounds like you done quite well then I'd be quite happy with a load like that . I'm sure I will trip over something like that eventually till then I'll pick up a few here and there can never have too many spares. Hoping I can find a Oxford motor scythe sore a video on YouTube and kind of now in the need to have one basket

I'll say it. He's dreaming. In job lot form anyway! Must qualify that further. Dreams do, just occasionally, come true, when the planets align right.

He not the only one wanting a small fortune for things. I recently seen some Canadian vendor on Amazon wanting nearly 6x the suggested retail price and then was to add shipping. I also seen very large prices on Ebay too but I am wondering with thing the way they are if something else is being sold instead of the listed description. Black market items comes to mind.
The forum member here just ordered those parts from a US site that is shipping to Canada at reasonable prices. We all had a good laugh about that vendor.

I've noticed quite of incorrect adverts too there is one on eBay at the moment for 2 18s one is supposedly an automatic no predicta gear on it anywhere wants $1000 . Either guy is trying take advantage of some one with out knowledge or he is the one with out much smarts and thinks cause it is old must be equal to current gold prices. Having said that it is often quite fun to correct them and cop abuse rarely will you get a thanks 😂

G'day all, It seems to me, that there are two main factors coming into play here, with these ads. One is the 'there's one born every minute' philosophy [credit to PT Barnum, a US showman who figured out that the way to relieve crowding in his exhibitions, was to put up a sign above a one-way door that said 'This Way To The Egress' ]. Also stated by the actor WC Fields, in the form 'never give a sucker an even break'. The other one is to target the 'instant gratification' mentality that's all too common these days - the 'gotta have it right now' syndrome. If one of these critters desires an 'instant Victa collection', I'd see it as only fair and just that they should be willing to pay a premium price for it!
Cheers, Gadge

Things along the lines of I know what I have it was my granddads and he told me that's what it was and every one else has no idea or the who effin asked for your opinion or when you ask how did they come up with a value they either say cause it's old and hard to come by which in most cases isn't or I saw one listed on eBay it didn't sell but kinda almost looks as crap as mine so must be worth that much too. Plenty of other reply's that aren't pg but we won't get into those . Most will take what you have to say onboard and amend there ad but quite a few are happy to try and potentially trick unsuspecting people or are just (insert swear word)
