Hello from western Canada - it's -30 here!

I recently picked up an old snow blower and would like to get it running (spending a couple of hours shoveling the driveway isn't our idea of fun). It's a Craftsman, but uses the "Victa 160 Power Unit" "Mark Two 70", according to the stickers. I'd never heard of Victa before, but it looks like they've built an awful lot of engines.

Can anyone direct me to the proper docs for this one? I'm guessing I'll need he basics for a start - spark and perhaps magneto gapping and carb service. It appears to be in reasonably good shape, but I haven't yet gotten it to turn over.

Thanks very much.

Hi Jonathan, it about 30 here as well but ours are in centigrade, no sign of snow. Victa motors are the best small engine ever designed and have been used in Australia for about 60 years. What carby does it have, alloy or plastic?

We're on Celsius as well, but we do get days of -40 (when C and F line up, so it doesn't matter which measure one uses...).

I think the carb body is cast Al/Zn/whatever, but with what appears to be a white plastic float bowl. Does that make sense?

Sounds like it is probably a G3 carby and I'm not sure what parts are available for those now. Before you do anything, does it have spark because these are points ignition. Be helpful if you can put a pic of it so we can see what you have

Greetings passinthru, and a warm welcome to the ODK Forums. :welcome:

Yes, that carb has a die cast zinc alloy body; as NormK says, it will be the G3 type.
As a 160cc Series 70 Mk 2 model engine, it will have Victa's 'Zip Start' automatic decompressor valve setup too.

The basic engine service info is available in several free download PDF's here, in the numbered sections: https://www.outdoorking-forum.com.au/forum/u..._Engine_Parts_List_and_Ma.html#Post54967

Fuel mix ratio is 25:1 using mineral 2-stroke oil for these, mixed with ethanol-free Regular gasoline.

Cheers,
Gadge

One good thing, there are probably a million bits just laying around in Aussie sheds for those Series 70 motors, I have a few myself just sitting in the yard. The bad thing is you are in Canada and the postage would be pretty high to send you the bits but if it is only small parts you need it may be worth it.
