I had to sweep the shed the other nite, so brought some of my collection out onto the "concourse".
They all cut grass with different levels of persuasion.

Ahh, if only victa had kept producing the thumblatch catcher series, they would be in better shape today!

I like the yellow Vortex in the 3rd picture.I bet you that one just purrs like no other.
I must admit that's a very interesting 500 Twin you have there.Never seen that model with the chocolate brown cowl from a gold supreme before.
It also has the wrong back wheels on it.I think those ones are from the early seventies not the mid seventies.
It is a nice collection you have there, but I can't help the feeling that you have more as I can see some in the background.

G'day all

Yes, a great collection there.
I have to agree with Blumbly - I have never see a red-base Twin with
anything but a white dress cowl. Wheel styles do not match, as said.
although ... the dark cowl does match the black catcher - something I
also haven't seen with a red base.

Hi. Regarding the twin cylinder, I recently put the older style 8" solid rubber wheels as the first iteration had them and the first time I saw a photo of a 500 was in an old victa leaflet, and it had these wheels. Made an impression on me and I wanted to emulate that look somewhat. I also got a repro nose decal on ebay recently.
The catcher is a so called Victa replacement, I lucked upon in a mower shop rubbish skip.
This is a couple of 2012 pics I took of it showing how it was when I received it. The dress cowl is actually black in colour.

That's quite right Mowerfreak! Many thanks for correcting the record.

I think there is some kind of argument there. Here is a picture from the big grass band sales brochure. As most of those wheels didn't see there way onto the 1975 models.Of which the twin cylinder was released in 1975.

They must have been pre production units ready for unveiling of the model like this one I found on Google images.

Here are some more shots of my machines.
The yellow Vortex makes a knocking sound at low revs but sounds good when running. A worn bearing or loose cutting disc (have tried tightening it -no difference).
The white Mustang runs the nicest but doesn't start as easily as the "Supa Mowa" which is so eager, it doesn't even need the primer. Starts on 3rd pull after turning on tap from cold.(!)

Yes this is very interesting.I also found some other pictures of both types. It seems that perhaps Victa may have just used the last of the stock on the earlier Twins.More research needed here I think.

I like the picture of the vortex that you have it reminds me of mine which is a white one. Its one of my faviourite mowers that I have and runs pretty well for something that I got off of Gumtree.Tell me is the white one a vortex or a mustang gts? I have read a lot of discussion about this and it has left me a bit confused. You have a nice collection of mowers there!

It is neither. It is simply a white Mustang model with the V40 engine pack and turbo disc like the yellow vortex and similarly styled white Mustang GTS like you you've got.
I have memories of being in Bing Lee in the 1988/89 period when in year 9 and year 10 respectively and seeing the yellow Vortex in display along with the white Mustang GTS and this white Mustang with the less fancy white engine cowl.
It was positioned just below the price points of the other two, even though there really was negligible practical benefit in spending more for the space shuttle looks of the other two.
