Doing a clean-up, I had this Victa Mustang and pulled apart to do up.. never got around to it though. These are the parts i'v found for it, not 100% sure if it's all there, may suit someone who wants to do it up or use the parts etc..

Not to my knowledge. I bought it to do up, but, the piston and bore was scored and needed to be rehoned. Whether or not it can be rehoned now, I'm not sure. The mowers in pieces and the cylinder is rusted.

Do you still have the handles? As I have one here somebody decided to weld them together. Anyone's guess why they would, but they did.

OK Widget thanks for the reply. That's fine,I only picked mine up a few weeks ago and as I said the handles are unrepeatable. So the search must go on as the mower runs and runs well.
Thanks man.

Does anybody know if the fitted the Powertorque motors to these alloy bases or were the Powertorques only fitted to the pressed metal bases? To me this would be the best combination alloy base with a powerful 2 stroke motor

For what it's worth Norm I have a Sunbeam Tiger in parts in the collection and from memory it has the same base and is a power torque.

Slash, I just plonked a powertorque motor on the base and it fits perfectly so they must have fitted them in the early days. I think I have 3 of these bases with Briggs motors on them so I think I will put powertorques on them,I have plenty of those on rusted bases, turn them into a great mower. Be the best combination if the standard Victa catcher would fit. On really studying these bases it was a very complex casting and must have been very expensive to produce, easy to see why they went to the pressed metal bases

Singing my song there Norm. I do't like the 4 strokes myself. No real reason just prefer the two strokes. As for the bases I really don't think much of the pressed steel bases. Your right on the costly production of cast aluminium bases too. For a start look at the price of scrap aluminium versus steel. Then theres either pressing a base with hydraulic pressure and dies in only a few steps or compared to heating molten aluminium and maintaining the dies of more complex shapes and a lot more labour. It would have to cost several times as much to produce a decent alloy base.

Slash, I'm running around collecting powertorques, seeing Victa have now stopped producing them, one day they will be sought after, because as night follows days, grass will continue to grow and will need to be cut and a 2 stroke is the best motor for this task

Slash another thing that staggers me on these big alloy bases is the amount of work that Victa put into mounting the handelbars, hard to believe the number of components they used to allow the bars to be folded down. The simple method used on the pressed metal bases would have saved them quite a bit of money on each unit and at the end of the day the customer could not care in the slightest about how they were mounted so it wouldn't have been a great selling feature
