Won't work per IPLs.
aussietrev yours is a 715238 5/8 diameter threaded.
The OP's is a 492091 which is NLA. Also the OP's is probably a 3/4 threaded.

Got it within a few thou, didn't want to play ball at first but eventually we won, I think It was not externally threaded but it stepped down about 2mm in the last 35mm

Thanks to NormK Great determination to persuade the little blighter to bend back. Just waiting for some oil seals, new keys and a gasket then I'll get it all back together and give it a spin. Norm deserves a medal. I offered money, beer or wine - he refused it all, just happy to help out. Great bloke and it was a pleasure to spend time learning from him. And thanks everyone for suggestions and help. I hate to throw things away if they can be fixed. Thanks to Norm I think this is a fixer. I'll report back when I give it a whirl PaulS

Due to changes to crankshafts composition and liability issues most of us in the US no longer straighten crankshafts. Prior method was the use of a jacking rig that used a modified bolt, an protection sleeve, and back support. The whole jig was mounted to the engine. You simply turn in the jacking bolt while checking the crankshaft straightness by rotating the crankshaft. The jacking was done until the crankshaft no longer wobbled.
Hitting with a hammer of any kind is rough on the bearing surface of the engine if the crankshaft is still in the engine.

Engine all back together. Went very sweetly. Unfortunately will not run properly. Seems to be a fuel problem. With a prime with a drop of fuel fires up and runs ok for four or five cycles. So have now dismantled and cleaned the carb but no joy. Any hidden places in the carb that might be blocked? I think dirty old oil got into the carb when I first tipped the motor over to look at the bent shaft. So near yet so far!

Thanks free bird. Have already had a look at the diaphragm looked ok but have read that a holes are often invisible. The motor ran fine before I took it apart despite the bent shaft. So I am thinking muck in the carb from turning motor over etc. I'll take the carb off again for Amore thorough clean. Cheers

Briggs engines with the Pulsa-Jet carby can take quite a few pulls to get started, after the carby and tank have been off.
That's because the well in the tank top [the one the short carby dip tube goes into] has to be filled up with fuel by the pump before it can run continuously. If the pump diaphragm is old and stiff, it can be a slow process.
I'd replace both of the diaphragms, while it's in bits, personally.
Cheers, Gadge

Thanks Gadge. I had kind of worked that out and jiggled the motor around to fill the well. Replacement diaphragm sounds like good advice and I will also make sure all the channels in the carby are clear Cheers Paul

Hi everyone Shredder rebuilt and happily munching through timber. Thanks for your wisdom and advice and especially thanks to Norm for the straightening. I'm hoping I won't be back here soon unless word gets out that I fix things. Cheers Paul
