Hello ODK History Lovers,

Would you buy a mower from a car salesman?
Would you say that a new car, driven for 800 - 1100 KMS
before it was sold as new - would be considered a 'new' car?

I attach an article I found by accident from 1928.
This is a story about Victa's founder Mervyn Richardson's 'run-in' with the law.
He was in his mid 30's, and he defended himself in court. . .

The context is this:
In the 1920s Mervyn worked as a motorcar salesman:-

At the Methodist Church, Concord, on 26 June 1926 he married Vera Marie Bertram, a clerk.
Next year he designed the Austin 'Wasp', a sporty, duck-tailed, coupe body for the locally
assembled Austin 7 car. Undeterred by previous failures, he set up New South Wales Motors Ltd
and opened a showroom in William Street. This venture gave him his first taste of success
and financial security, but the business did not survive the Depression.

[Australian Dictionary of Biography ADB website ]

I wonder . . . was Mervyn Richardson joy-riding?
Did the stipendiary Magistrate make the right decision?

All very interesting.
