I'm after a suitable replacement motor for a couple of 45s that i am restoring. I'm do a full repaint and want to replace the old briggs motors with a new motor. I can get a new briggs for about $270 on ebay. But does anbody know of somealternative cheaper options

Honestly the new sloper style Briggs engines for $269 are pretty good value for money.

Alternatively you can buy a Chonda for around the mid one hundred figure like this one,

Most of these are very reliable power plants if you do the general maintenance like change oil regularly etc.

I think 5hp will be two big. I like the look of the briggs 3.5hp. Just putting feelers out for alternative motors as i can't locate anything else myself on ebay.

I am putting the B&S OHV 130cc 3.5hp (which is in effect a Mitsubishi engine) on my 20" SB 45 I will let you know how I go with it. It should be an improvement from the Kawasaki FA130 it had before.
