Hello everyone, I found another Scott Bonnar but this one a 20 inch Supercut. The mower is in ok condition but is need of a restoration. It has no engine and engine plate, but the catcher looks to be ok like the frame. I have a few questions regarding how many HP engine this mower can handle and locating a new or used engine plate for it so any answers would be very appreciated.

The condition of this machine looks quite good.
It appears that it has a cast iron landroll, suggesting that this machine
will also have a cast iron sideframe as well (not alloy).

It appears to have been crank start and there was an SB air-cleaner fitted.
If you can count the number of blades on the reel you might be able to narrow
down the model from the document link (below).

What I am unsure of is why SB would offer some models with reduction gearboxes.
I'm thinking your machine may have had the 25C Villiers 2-stroke on it, but
am unsure (more photos of the engine mount and other side might help a member).

There are a small number of Super-cut owners (including Mod BB) who should
be able to help with engine size suggestions.

I'm thinking that this SC was originally fitted with a Villiers C12/2 ~ 412 engine which is a four stroke unit. Have you actually bought this machine or are you merely contemplating on purchasing it ?

They do have a bit of a following amongst us enthusiasts but nothing like the model 45. I've just added another early solid deck HK25 kirby powered 17 inch unit to my on going collection that I should really cull down but I seem to part with one and then gain another.
Since you are in Adelaide we should catch up for a brainstorming session LOL !

I've been contemplating on buying this mower for a couple of days now but I don't know a whole lot about them, mostly about the engines that were fitted on them. I was planning to buy this mower because I wanted something a little bigger for the front yard as it is reasonably long. Also, the 20 inch 45s and queens are hard to come by, and I just wanted another Scotty to add to newly growing collection. However catching up with you would be good though :D

This particular "Supercut" in question was originally fitted with a BSA engine, (note the odd engine mounts and the rare air filter snorkel). Definitely not the most common engine on a Scott Bonnar but it was a part of the Scott Bonnar line up and thus makes it part of Australia's Mowing Heritage.
