Ok, so crisis averted. I got the rear rollers disassembled.

I'll clean these up and send them with the other parts to get sandblasted next week.

I've been doing some research on hammer tone paint colours and see that PPG do several greens.

The hammer tone they produce is called Protec 311.

Has anyone had a look at these colours?

I was looking to get the paint colour-matched, however the places I have been to thus far don't seem keen to tint hammer tone as it contains silicone.

Anyway, I'll go and have a look at these colours and see if any are close to what the original is or if they can colour match.

Another update soon.

Cheers. [Linked Image]

Hi Christian,
I recently used the Protec 311 on my recent resto and was very disappointed with the paint as a whole. Didn't go on well and had to paint it twice for coverage. Very thin paint! On the plus side they did get a good colour match but failed to note the formula. They are currently in possession of the remainder of the paint in the hope they will be able to advise the correct code.

Hi Christian,

Sorry I didn't get to you sooner but it's obvious that you eventually worked it out. It's amazing what a bit of age and rust can do to make things harder than they seem.

we're still hoping that Mr Jones can get his paint supplier to come up with a formula as that will make life much easier.

I must admit I've had quite a few paint suppliers only too happy to colour match Hammertone paint here in Adelaide. Some suppliers just want your money and aren't interested in doing anything for it as I've found in the past.

Cheers,
BB

Hi all,

Time for an update...

Late last week I received my parts back from the sandblaster. I primed them over the weekend so they are now ready for paint. I'm going with Protec's Olive Green Hammertone. Mr Jones advised that it went on very thin and required two coats. I'll also give it two coats and we'll see how it comes out, in regards to both paint quality and colour.

Now on to more interesting news. I've become the proud new owner of another SB45, this time a 17" model. A relative contacted me after hearing of my interest and them and donated one to my cause.

In my view its in pretty amazing condition and comes with the original catcher which is dinged up a little, but also a brand new Scott Bonnar catcher STILL IN THE BOX! I'm pretty happy about it. Also in the catcher box was a brand new chain cover and grass deflector. All appear to be genuine spare parts.

So my plan is to have this mower as my everyday mower, so will get the reel re painted then grinded with the soleplate/bedknife and get the engine going again.

It seems the engine was going a few weeks ago after a long, long time of inaction, but after running for a few minutes it stopped.

Does anyone have a procedure I should run through to do some diagnostics on the engine?

Here are some pics:

know nothing
i am not a reel mower guy ........ but now thats a good looking honest machine !!! congrats on it Christian .
engine problem could be its just sucked up some old fuel . clean out the tank and air filter an oil change and see if its ok then . just suck out all the old fuel , i got one of those things from supercheap , was i think $5.00 and its an easy way to change oil too , just tip it a little and suck it out .
not much really ever goes wrong with the carby's on them unless they have been tinkered with before its just a matter of using the choke in a way that suits you , pull out and it will fire . push in a little and it should run when its got fresh fuel up .

hope it helps a little for ya cheers

Hi Christian,

How did you end up going with the 17 inch machine and how's progress going on the 20 inch machine ?

Cheers,
BB
