I am currently trying to repair brothers cox stockman series 3 2008-09 rideon mower any comments or sugestions on how I can repair it .the yoke where the steering joins keeps breaking at $150 a pop an has broken it 3 times so far.
I have cut the remains of previous work done on bottom shaft .what was welded previously a universal socket which broken by the stress on steering I have worked on white ,viking an greenfield r/mowers .all have simple steering
Damage has been done to lower steering housing at bottom from previous welding I found when manually moving wheels it was a little stiff I will check on the under side where the chain an condition .being in a confined work area where the yoke is workin on this machine is a bit hard
I have repaired cox stockman 32in cut with a socket knuckle an a bit of fancy machining making easies to replace .I told my brother it was the best I could do without using the original parts
thanks for your import I end up using a socket knuckle because of the angle involved an tight space .Its not a nice machine to work on because the fuel pump is on the same side .On the back of motor where I had to do welding Ie fuel tank an battery had to be removed as well
I just finished working on a green field 32 fast cut . Replacing cork clutches an replacing main axel the 3 bearings plus two axel bearings an two deck pulleys an a few other parts . On that point I had too order a new drive shaft that supports the drive pulleys to the clutch pact .everything was rite except that the threads at each end were too long .I was lucky that I had a lathe to remove about 2 mm from the threads so it would fit into body supports that holds the clutch pulleys
What sort of material is used to hold the 2 yokes together in the middle of the joint? Maybe use a piece of old tyre? similar to the old holden steering joint.

Such is life....... Nothing better than a "GreenField" just mowed..
