its a survivor all right, remember once it is repainted, you cant unpaint it. and theres more painted ones around than survivors. maybe you should look up the term patina. once lost you can neve get it back.

I have a modle 1,2,3,4. in the same condition. I have replaced parts to get them complete. but I have left them with there original patina. I also have a 1,2,3,4. that were in very poor condition, that I have restored, and repainted.

this is only my personal view, but I love the survivors. and there histories.

I was going to repaint it until the house paint came off the fuel tank, now I will probably leave it as is after removing the black paint from the front of the base. I have other mowers to repaint so will have plenty of shiny ones to enjoy. This one was a one owner and I think if I repaint it its identity and originality will be gone.

Crikey, Paul. In all seriousness, have you considered a secondhand Brownbuilt Compactus unit? It'd seem the way to go!

Do you have one Gadge ? I am at my mower capacity now, not planning on adding anymore unless they are very special.

I've only seen Compactus units that were about 15" shelf width, and I think you'd need 24" for mowers. However the ones I've seen were the office variety, not the warehouse ones. Even the office ones were startlingly expensive, though.

i am currently building a 50 mower capacity racking setup, that will allow the handles to be in the up position so I done damage the choke hoses. I am using industrial type dexion racking, and having the rear shelf 50 higher than the front and fitting a roll stop on the front so they don't roll off. if you have the racking 300 off the wall the handle can poke through. this way I can go 4 mowers high and have a top shelf for spares and or long term projects. you can buy this racking second hand very cheaply. and use some 16mm chip board. I will get one made up and post some pictures. my mower count has gone past 60 so I have to come up with some storage solution fast. the only problem is that once I have them stored my wife knows how to count, and I wont be able to buy any more with out her reminding me of it.

it is also a good idea to take the weight of the wheels if possible as long term storage can cause flat spots. ??

No, but that's just because the larger items I seem to 'collect' aren't really suited to one.
Like motorbikes - there are four of those in my garage at the moment; three solos and a sidecar outfit.
Don't intend to be a mower collector - the three I have is about my limit. And one of those is due to be stripped for parts, when I get motivated .

Yep, they're very pricy new, but quite often go fairly cheap secondhand, on a 'purchase and removal' basis. The shopfitters and racking systems mobs often don't seem to want to know about them.

It is indeed the wider 'warehouse' Compactus units I had in mind.

Obviously the pullies are higher, but do yo mean the flywheel covers?

The covers generally have a large flat washer between the plate and fly to stop dust getting in the puller holes....Maybe one is missing? The Red one looks higher if this is what you mean. Just measure it

I cant see it, but there are a few variances in bases.

Differences included overall height, angle height, width and metal guage.

They are generally quite small though.

Axle mounts have the largest variances, but you would think with the same jigs they would all be good.

Holes for the engine can also be offset or not inline.

I have an early 2 that the apprentice must have done, as the front axles mounts are offset nearly 20mm to that of the rear, and they are also welded on a 15� angle!

Its possible one base is a model 1 especially if it has an early serial no...

So with all that said, one could definitely be higher, only a measurement will tell.

Out of interest I will put a straight edge across the bottom and take a measurement upwards. Not on my urgent list but just out of curiosity.

A good friend of mine called in this morning with a gift from his father, recently I fitted a set of rings to his dad's power torque and gave it a service and a good clean up. He had an old toe cutter under the house that he wanted me to have :-) ....

His dad bought it when it was nearly new and he has a box of parts that go with it :-) his dad throws nothing away. Fingers and toes crossed
