Hi Jack,

Thanks for elaborating on that issue. You're spot on regarding the practice being used on gang mowers but it's definitely not possible on a SB.

The only option is to remove, resharpen the reel in one direction and then back lap if so desired. The bottom blade must be done at the same time so as to match the reel.

Cheers,
BB

I thought I read one of Deejay's posts saying it was possible with the 33?

Hi waikphys,

Well I'm pretty sure you can't but I stand to be corrected. If you look at yours you have a nut holding the cutter sprocket / pulley onto a threaded shaft which in fact would be part of the reel centre shaft just like it is on the Model 45.

Cheers,
BB

Hi waikphys and BB,

I'll stand corrected too if the 33 has a reversible reel.
I've looked at the printed material I have.
I'm certain the Model 33 did not have a reversible reel - for the reasons BB said.

Cheers

Hi waikphys,

I knew that's what you were going to ask next LOL !!!

You have to undo that nut that holds the cutter sprocket on and remove the sprocket off the reel shaft, you will probably have to place a length of timber into the reel to lock it up and stop it from rotating and then just place a socket with a breaker bar attached on the nut and give it a blow with a clench fist downwards. from there you may require a 3 legged puller on the sprocket or it may just slide off easily. How many times have I attached my puller and wound in the centre screw shaft only to have it slide straight off.

The rest is pretty much self explanatory about disassembling the reel bearing carriers and then maneuvering the reel out of the chassis.

Cheers,
BB

OK great :)Thanks so much, things are starting to make sense...sorry if I'm slow on the uptake

So to free the cylinder once the pulley and sprocket are off, do you just slide it laterally and angle it out? I like to plan things in my head first and I can't quite fathom how to free the ends from the bearings/adjusters on the end of the cylinder

Simply undo the carrier nuts from the side frames of the chassis. Also undo the adjustment set screws on the top and lower section of the carrier.

Cheers,
BB
