Hi there everyone

I'm from Tassie, Australia. I am what I'd call a keen but terrified outdoor person. I am the opposite of a handyman, but have had to learn some skills over time. I have a difficult time understanding a lot of things that most other "men" take for granted (eg. car engines etc), but have no trouble at all with Algebra, rubik's cubes and other mathematical pursuits!

A few years ago we moved to a rural property, nearly an acre, and that has stretched us. We want to stay and are trying to lead a more self sufficient life. A big part of that is learning how to use and maintain tools and appliances. I guess I will mainly be asking for the help and advice of others, as I'm not sure I could contribute much. I really hope to become a lot more knowledgable.

Hi user101, welcome to Outdoorking.

We have some members who go through a process of widening their skills and knowledge while they are here, and others who mostly just come here when they have a specific problem and need some help. All levels of expertise are welcome, so don't be concerned if you think you'll be listening rather than teaching, especially in the short term. The main thing we ask is that you think and act carefully so as not to get hurt, or cause anyone else to get hurt, when you use outdoor equipment. If you are uncertain how to do something, please ask, and if you don't understand the answers, say so.

Thanks grumpy, I appreciate that advice and the need to not stress about being a "taker" for a while.
