Hello ODK Members and Guests,

I guess I'm pretty lucky to have got this one at auction.
They rarely come up for sale.

It's a wooden lawnmower toolbox off a Ransomes professional machine.
It measures 33cm x 18cm x 8cm and is solidly constructed using T&G joints.
It has a Ransomes transfer on the lid and is in excellent original condition.

I have dated the toolbox to the 1930s.
It was common practice for manufacturers to include these toolboxes on
heavy lawnmowers. They would have contained adjusting tools, oil, and
perhaps a rag for the gardener to wipe his face and hands.

Sometimes, sellers would mount their nameplates on these boxes,
or in some other prominent position.

Here are the photos plus an illustration of a 1930s machine fitted with this style:-

Very nice find Jack. Its in amazing cond for its age.... Personally I find the accessories, upgrades, ephemera and original owners history just as fascinating as the Mowers themselves.

Thanks for showing this.

A pity Victa never offered one with retail sales as id love to fit my genuine funnel spanners and nos spares for display.

Maybee another salesmans or techs box will come up one day:)

Hi Mal and ODK members,

Yep, thanks mate. It is in amazing condition.
It has its original paint. The 'dirty bits' are the decaying varnish.

I couldn't agree more about the desirability of accessories, ephemera &c.
I regret not bidding higher for a Victa neck tie (1960s) and Victa plastic record (1970s)
a couple of years' ago.

That record had my favourite childhood mower song ...
"Hey, it's Victa Time". I've never found a recording of it. frown

p.s. If a member has that 'special' piece they would like to share, then please present it in this forum.

All very collectable.

JACK.
