Hello
ODK Members and Guests,
I guess I'm pretty lucky to have got this one at auction.
They rarely come up for sale.
It's a
wooden lawnmower toolbox off a
Ransomes professional machine.
It measures 33cm x 18cm x 8cm and is solidly constructed using T&G joints.
It has a Ransomes transfer on the lid and is in excellent original condition.
I have dated the toolbox to the
1930s.
It was common practice for manufacturers to include these toolboxes on
heavy lawnmowers. They would have contained adjusting tools, oil, and
perhaps a rag for the gardener to wipe his face and hands.
Sometimes, sellers would mount their
nameplates on these boxes,
or in some other prominent position.
Here are the photos plus an illustration of a 1930s machine fitted with this style:-
